Dr Jones qualified from The University of Wales College of Medicine in 1988. After qualification he served in the Royal Navy seeing active service in the first Gulf war. He began his anaesthetic training while in the Navy, following which he trained in anaesthesia in Wessex. He was a visiting Instructor at the University of Michigan in 1999/2000 where he specialised in vascular and liver transplant anaesthesia.
Dr Jones was appointed to a Consultant post in Portsmouth in 2001. Being a partner in Portsmouth Anaesthetic Group gives Dr Jones enormous benefits to patients that he treats. They provide a comprehensive care package covering the entire perioperative period and the preoperative assessment service optimises patients prior to surgery. Dr Jones has extensive experience of anaesthesia for orthopaedic surgery, particularly shoulder surgery, having completed over 2000 shoulder cases. He is highly skilled at the techniques of regional anaesthesia and has published a number research articles relating to this area of anaesthetic practice. Dr Jones works with a broad range of surgical specialties in his private practice, which reflects his NHS role.
