Spire Portsmouth Hospital has recently bought a new laser specifically for varicose vein treatments. Vascular Consultant Mr Simon Payne (pictured below) uses the laser to treat patients with varicose veins as an alternative to surgery.
The Varilase laser is a non-surgical treatment which uses an endovenous laser (a laser inserted into the vein) to close the affected vein. This treatment is less invasive than standard surgical treatments of varicose veins and uses only a small incision to insert the laser.
Using a laser is a fast and effective way of treating varicose veins. It can be performed under local anaesthetic and patients can leave the same day of the procedure. Patients are even encouraged to be up on their feet the next day.
Another treatment that we now offer is called Venaseal™ which is a vascular glue which is inserted into the vein. This treatment can be done in outpatients and patients can walk out of the treatment room without any need of compression stockings. Below are photos of a patient before and after the Venaseal™ treatment.
