The report, which was commissioned by Slimsticks, revealed that a considerable number of people living and working in the UK feel overweight.
A further quarter of all adults are of the opinion that they are carrying too much weight and that losing two stone is their desired target.
However, despite this keenness to lose weight, many admitted lacking the willpower to follow through on diets (51 per cent of men and 38 per cent of women).
"With the rates of obesity increasing year after year it can seem like an impossible task to stop the pounds piling on," Priya Tew, an independent registered dietician, commented.
"Having a balanced diet, an active lifestyle and careful portion control is the key. Over eating by just 2,000 calories a day will lead to weight gain over a year."
She added that because people live such busy lives, it is more important than ever to make preparations and plan ahead when it comes to healthy eating.
