Healthy eating 'should reflect personality habits'

Healthy eaters and people thinking about opting for weight loss surgery should link their diets to their personalities, according to one nutritional expert.

Dr Carina Norris, who works as a registered nutritionist, suggested that those trying to shed some pounds should ensure that their diet is nutrient-dense and that it fits in with their eating personality.

She explained that this means healthy eating habits should somewhat reflect previous eating patterns but just interchanged with more nutritious options such as good snacks instead of calorific alternatives.

"Use your calories on really nutritious things that are going to sustain you and keep you healthy such as lean and low-fat protein, wholegrain carbohydrates, plenty of fruit and vegetables, and drink lots of water," Dr Norris advised.

She added that avoiding gimmicky crack diets could help to sustain a healthy lifestyle balance.

Recent figures from an EU study revealed that British women are the most obese in Europe.
