The age when most people begin experiencing memory loss is said to be 57 but a new study has revealed that it can begin as early as our 30s.
According to Love to Learn, the providers of a new range of online courses aimed at adults "who enjoy learning", six per cent of respondents said that they noticed a decline in their ability to remember when they hit their 30s.
The online poll also showed that one in ten people started noticing changes in their memory when they got to their 40s.
"Memory changes throughout your lifetime and your brain has a remarkable ability to adapt and thrive," commented Gill Jackson, director of Love to Learn.
"Many of the assumptions we make about the older brain are untrue. Our memory works wonders, most of the time. But it could be doing even more – and this course shows you how to use specific techniques to help train your memory to be even more effective."
The study noted that those aged 50 and over are keen to keep their minds active, participating in activities like crosswords, Sudoku and puzzle games. Some even enjoy helping their grandchildren with their homework.
