The number of men opting for elective breast reduction surgery is on the rise.
According to new figures from the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), in the past year, the number of male breast reduction procedures taking place in the UK climbed by 28 per cent.
Breast reduction is now the second most popular cosmetic surgery procedure amongst men - second only to nose surgery.
Some 741 men had surgery to reduce the size of their breasts in 2010 - up from 581 in 2009.
BAAPS also noted that the total number of cosmetic surgery procedures undertaken in the UK rose by five per cent.
Consultant plastic surgeon and president elect at BAAPS Rajiv Grover said that the increase in demand for breast reduction cosmetic surgery amongst men was in part due to increased coverage of the issue in the popular press.
"Images in the media - coverage of high profile men like Simon Cowell and Jack Nicholson - make men think about this more," he told the BBC.
"Just recently a vest was launched for men aimed at enhancing the way their chests look," Mr Grover added.
For women, breast augmentation remains the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure.
