An innovative website has been launched by Cancer Research UK, with the aim being to speed up how solutions for battling the life-threatening diseases are discovered.
Cell Slider is an online portal which will enable members of the public to analyse real-life cancer data with their own eyes.
This information has been gathered from research archives and represents the first time that such facts and figures have been turned into a format that anyone can access.
Cancer Research UK was keen to stress that the website will enable a large raft of samples to be analysed faster and more effectively, while also freeing up the time of scientists so that they can conduct further research into the deadly diseases.
Professor Paul Pharoah, a scientist at Cancer Research UK who also helped develop Cell Slider, commented: "There is information that can transform cancer treatments buried in our data – we just need the manpower to unlock them.
"We've turned our data into something that can be accessed by anyone – you don't have to be a scientist to carry out this type of cancer research."
