    Professional profile:
    After five years army service, including two years with the Parachute Regiment, I did two years as a surgical registrar and one year as a plastic surgery SHO to underline my trauma interest. I trained as an orthopaedic registrar in the South Western Region before proceeding to a senior registrar post in Oxford. Oxford fostered my interest in primary and revision arthroplasty and bone infection in addition to the excellent trauma training. I supplemented this with a six month post as International Microsurgery fellow in Perth, Western Australia, and one year as International Trauma Fellow at University of Tennessee Medical Center, Knoxville, Tennessee.
    Personal profile:
    I am married to Carol who is now a consultant paediatric anaesthetist. Before moving to Birmingham, I started my consultant life in Canterbury. I have three children aged 5, 4 and one.
