I am a high volume consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with specialist interest in lower limb arthroplasty (Hip and Knee Joint Replacement) and Trauma. I perform over 150 primary hip and knee replacements per year and more that 50 revisions per year.
My recent experience involves minimally invasive hip surgery. I use a new approach, the direct superior approach (DSA). This approach spares muscles that are essential for normal gait, which means that the rehabilitation is faster and the chances of developing abnormal gait (Trendelenburg gait) are significantly reduced. This, in conjunction with a small scar, improves satisfaction, speeds up return to baseline activity and reduces the length of stay in hospital.
To date, I have performed more than 200 primary hip replacements using the approach described above with excellent results in terms of patient reported satisfaction. Furthermore I perform more than 50 complex revisions of old hip replacements yearly for various reasons (infection, failure, fractures) which are referred to my team from my colleagues locally as well as regionally.
I have been appointed as the Associate Clinical Director for Heart Of England NHS Trust. In my role I am developing new pathways and policies that aim to make the department more modern, and efficient so that it can provide an excellent standard of care for the local population.
I strongly believe in evidence based medicine. I read and research into my fields of interest continuously. I have more than 10 publications in scientific orthopaedic journals (peer reviewed) on my field of interest (hip and knee replacement and trauma around them).
