I graduated from Liverpool University and have been practising gynaecology and urogynaecology since 1993. I have been a consultant in obstetrics & gynaecology at the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust since April 2004 and in private practice since August 2004. I carried out my research in urinary incontinence in Leicester and my specialist training in the South Trent Region. Additional time spent in other centres of excellence in the UK has given me the opportunity to work with highly respected gynaecologists with a national and international reputation.
In addition to providing a general gynaecology service, my specialist interests are urodynamics, the management of urinary incontinence, the overactive bladder, bladder pain, cystitis and recurrent infections and uterovaginal prolapse. I provide my patients with a detailed and thorough assessment, with treatment decisions being made in partnership with patients. My approach is to tailor treatment to the individual rather than a one size fits all. Management may vary from simple advice, drug therapy through to surgery. The treatments I offer include minimally invasive surgery to treat stress incontinence (eg. tapes and urethral bulking to treat stress incontinence), Botox injections to treat the overactive bladder and new surgical techniques to correct prolapse of the womb (with and without removing the womb) and vagina, performed using a key-hole approach. I also look after women with general gynaecological problems, including menorrhagia/menstrual disorders, ovarian cysts, pelvic pain and abnormal vaginal bleeding. I perform hysteroscopy, endometrial ablation, hysterectomy and laparoscopic surgery. In my Trust, I do a rapid access clinic to investigate suspected cancer. I have established a comprehensive urogynaecology service.
I have many years of experience in performing diagnostic and therapeutic gynaecological and urogynaecological procedures. I am passionate about teaching. I teach trainees in obstetrics and gynaecology, urology and care of the elderly. I receive very positive feedback from patients and my colleagues.
