This is the latest technological advancement for planning and undertaking knee replacement surgery. Patients have an MRI scan of the knee, hips and ankle before the surgery. This allows computer aided measurement of leg alignment. From these images, a customized jig is manufactured that fits exactly onto the bone ends so that the thigh bone and shin bones are cut at the correct angle so that the knee joint is restored to its original alignment. Each patient has a unique shape to their knee and this system allows for individual variation. The advantages for the patient over traditional techniques can include:
