She ain’t heavy, she’s my sister!
Twins Danielle and Laura Maisey are in training for a half-marathon that will let them tick off one more ‘bucket list’ wish of their friend Tahlia Banks, who died last year following a long battle against cystic fibrosis.
Tahlia, from Marston Green, died four months after undergoing a double lung transplant.
But friends of Tahlia, known as Tink because of her love of Disney films, discovered that she had left a ‘bucket list’ of things she wanted to do – and now have set about achieving them for her.
The twins, from Chelmsley Wood, who both work at Spire Parkway Hospital in Solihull, explained that running a marathon was one of the things on the list.
But, explained Danielle: “Seeing as there are two of us we thought we could both run a half marathon and that would equal a full one – we thought Tahls would see the funny side of that!”
The pair, who have just celebrated their 21st birthdays, have already accomplished several of the 35 things on the list, including being fitted for a wedding dress and having a ‘While I Breathe’ tattoo as well as organising ‘a crazy party’ which will take place later in the year.
And they are also saving hard for a trip to Disneyworld in Florida and a dream holiday in Australia in their attempt to complete the list.
For the moment though the twins are concentrating on training for the Birmingham half marathon to take place in October although they will also be hoping to tick off other wishes in the meantime.
“There is a big group of us involved so we are sure that between us we will complete the bucket list. Tink was loved by everyone and we all really miss her so doing this helps to keep her memory in our lives.
“It also means we can raise much-needed cash for cystic fibrosis research,” said Danielle.
