The Spire Parkway Hospital sleep clinic run by Dr Dev Banerjee (Consultant Respiratory and Sleep Physician) is now in its third year and is the only private clinic in the West Midlands which provides a one stop consultation and diagnostic service for patients suspected of having obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). Overnight lung function testing (monitoring of breathing and oxygenation) is done at the patient’s home the same night of the consultation and results are available the next day.
Waiting times (from referral to results) are less than 10 days compared to 10 weeks in most local NHS hospitals. Treatment with CPAP is arranged by Dr Banerjee. Other sleep disorders seen in this clinic are insomnia, restless legs syndrome, shift work related sleepiness, delayed sleep phase syndrome and narcolepsy. Up to 20% of the population may have a sleep disorder and this clinic provides an efficient organised way to help those affected.
