Sheena Howarth, a retired lady aged 74, from Kirk Smeaton recently had a total hip replacement with Mr Ajit Shetty, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, at Spire Methley Park Hospital. Mrs Howarth first became aware of her symptoms in 2008. She says, “Back in 2008 I began to suffer with pain in my groin which gradually worsened and really disturbed my sleep. I went to see my GP as I knew something needed to be done.”
Sheena Howarth, 74, from Kirk Smeaton had her right hip replaced in 2014 under the care of consultant orthopaedic surgeon, Mr Ajit Shetty.
Over the next few years Sheena underwent a series of pain injections and physiotherapy sessions to try to combat her painful symptoms. However after these failed to help she knew it was time to consider surgery. Sheena says, “I chose Spire Methley Park as I knew the hospital had a good reputation and I spoke to a friend who had already undergone a hip replacement who advised I see Mr Shetty as she was really happy with her results.”
Sheena came into the hospital for an initial consultation where she underwent an examination and multiple scans. Mr Shetty determined a total hip replacement would be the most suitable procedure to help Mrs Howarth with her painful condition.
She says, “My experience at Spire Methley Park Hospital was very good. I found staff to be professional and friendly and the whole process from my first appointment to surgery was very quick.”
Following her operation Sheena feels a lot more active than before and can enjoy playing tennis and swimming once more. Her advice to anyone thinking about a hip replacement is, “Just do it sooner rather than later, don’t let the pain get so bad that it affects your quality of life.”
