Mr Sowdi performed his surgical training in Scarborough, Grimsby, Doncaster and Shrewsbury Hospitals. He became a specialist registrar at Leeds General Infirmary and then a locum consultant at both Scarborough and Grantham Hospitals.
Mr Sowdi is was appointed Consultant in general and breast surgery at Dewsbury District Hospital, which is part of Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust, in June 2009. The majority of his work involves breast surgery. He is the only consultant breast surgeon at Dewsbury Hospital.
His breast cancer work includes wire guided breast cancer surgeries, axillary surgery including sentinel nodes biopsies and major duct surgery as well as mastectomy and breast conserving surgery.
His general surgery role involves laparoscopic (key-hole) gall bladder surgery and abdominal surgery such as hernia repairs.
Mr Sowdi enjoys teaching and was one of the examiners for the final year HYMS students conducted at York in May 2008. He is also actively involved in audit and research and brings enthusiasm, dedication and commitment to patient care.
