I graduated from Leeds School of Physiotherapy in 1989 and worked for a short period at Harrogate District Hospital before travelling to Australia and Tasmania, where I worked as a locum physiotherapist. I returned to the UK in 1992 and completed my MSc at Loughborough University; I have since enjoyed a varied and rewarding career, mostly working for United Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, then working in the Private sector since 1997. I first worked at Methley Park Hospital in 2002 before leaving to teach, but was very pleased to return to Methley in 2008 where I now work as a Clinical Specialist.
Sporting activities and fitness have always appealed to me, both professionally and at a personal level. I have actively participated in competitive sport including triathlon and Karate, competing in Olympic distance triathlons and at a National level in Karate. Whilst now retired from competitive sport I continue to have an active interest in treating sports injuries and helping patients return to their chosen sporting activity.
With recent advances in research supporting pelvic dysfunction, I have developed a special interest in assessing and treating pelvic malalignment and identifying how this impacts on lower limb and spinal problems. Developing skills and undertaking post graduate training in treating the pelvis and sacro-iliac joint has allowed me to help hundreds of patients with non-specific low back pain and I consider this to be an approach that has significantly enhanced my working practice. I have also completed several recognised postgraduate programmes including McKenzie Institute, Cyriax/Orthopaedic Medicine, Kinetic Control, MACP and Acupuncture.
Highlights of my career include setting up the Regional Rheumatology Unit at Chapel Allerton, Leeds, in 1994, travelling with the British KUGB Karate Team as Squad Physiotherapist for the 1998 World Championships in Paris, and teaching Physiotherapy as a Senior Lecturer at York St. John University between 2005 and 2008.
At Methley Park Hospital I enjoy working alongside a team of highly skilled Physiotherapists, Nurses and Consultants, and an efficiently run department allows me to deliver the best possible patient care.
