    Professional profile:

Mr Muir has been a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon since 1996.  His elective practice at Salford Royal Hospital consists solely of hand, wrist and elbow surgery and encompasses most aspects in this field.  In addition, he takes part in the general on-call rota. He has treated professional actors, sportsmen and musicians.

Mr Muir undertook training in Glasgow, Liverpool and Manchester, with specialist hand training in Strasbourg, France, in the upper limb unit at Wrightington Hospital and in the regional department of Plastic Surgery in Manchester.

Mr Muir has an extensive commitment to training.  He was formerly Royal College of Surgeons Tutor at Salford Royal, Chairman of the core surgical training committee and the Salford Royal representative on the Surgical Training Committee in orthopaedic surgery. He is now a member of the organizing committee of the prestigious British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH) Instructional Course Lectures.

Mr Muir has taught on a number of national courses, including at the Royal College of Surgeons in London, John Moores University in Liverpool, The University of Manchester and on the authoritative BSSH instructional courses in hand surgery.

Mr Muir is an examiner for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Glasgow, for the Hand Diploma of The University of Manchester and for the European Hand Diploma and sits on the steering committee for this latter.  He is also a trainer for the Manchester based National Interface Hand fellows. These posts are for doctors in the final stages of their training to become hand surgery specialists.  These senior trainees are drawn from both plastic and orthopaedic surgery.
