In October, Spire Manchester Hospital hosted the Hand and Wrist Sports Injury Masterclass at Hotel Football. Consultant Hand and Wrist Surgeon Mr Zaf Naqui, Hand Therapist Laura Parker and Radiologist Professor Waqar Bhatti delivered an excellent educational event to a room full of physiotherapists and clinicians.
Mr Naqui, Laura Parker and Professor Bhatti are the specialists making up The Manchester Hand and Wrist Team who hold a weekly bespoke multidisciplinary hand and wrist service at the Spire Manchester Hospital. Treating everyone from elite athletes to musicians, the team look after anyone with a hand or wrist injury creating an individualised rehabilitation programme tailored to the patient.
The event was a great success, with over 100 doctors, physiotherapists and sports therapists registered to attend. The educational talks included a live wrist examination streamed to a big screen, taking the delegates through a step-by-step guide to examining a wrist. The evening also included live case studies from previous sporting patients UFC fighter, Mike Wilkinson and professional Rugby League player, Adam Higson. Both patients had treatment with the Manchester Hand and Wrist Team at Spire Manchester Hospital and are both back in action in their professional contact sports.
The event was a brilliant start to the new programme of monthly educational events Spire Manchester Hospital is offering to GPs and Physiotherapists. For more information about upcoming educational events please visit our GP and Physiotherapist Events page here.
