• Full facelift

Your surgeon will make an incision right around your hairline, past the front of your ear and sometimes under your chin if the operation includes correction of a sagging jawline. The consultant will then carefully separate your skin from the underlying muscles of your face. Excess fat will be removed and the muscles will be tightened.  The skin will then be lifted up, pulled back and any excess will be trimmed off. It will then be stitched back to the line where the cut was initially made. A full facelift is always performed under general anaesthetic, which means you will be asleep during the procedure. You will usually need to stay in hospital for one or two nights.

    Brow lift

Brow lift surgery smoothes out frown lines and wrinkles on your forehead and between your eyes to give you a more youthful and refreshed appearance. Also known as a forehead lift, this procedure raises the brows and lifts the eyelids to open up the area around the eyes. The surgery can be performed in a number of different ways and your consultant surgeon will discuss the best option for you.

    Coronal brow lift

Excess skin is removed through a cut across the top of your scalp, hidden within your hair. The muscles that cause frown lines are shortened and your eyebrows are lifted.

    Keyhole surgery

This can be performed using special instruments inserted through tiny cuts in your hairline. The muscles that cause frown lines are reduced and keyhole surgery means there will be minimal scarring. These brow lift techniques may be performed under general anaesthetic (meaning you will be asleep throughout) or under local anaesthetic, in which case you will be awake although the operation area will be numb. You will usually be able to return home later the same day, but you will need to plan some time off work to rest and recover.

    After your operation

Your face will be tightly wrapped in bandages. Depending on the procedure carried out, these may run under your chin, around your ears and/or over your head.  They are usually taken off after about one or two days, and after the operation you can normally expect a certain amount of swelling, bruising and soreness.  A facelift or brow lift can give good long-term results, but you will need to take good care of your skin, including protecting it from sunlight.
