At your initial appointment with a consultant at London Fertility Centre your doctor will take a fully comprehensive medical history of both partners, if applicable, and you may be asked to undergo a physical examination. If for any reason you do not wish to have the examination at this stage, please inform your doctor. An ultrasound scan and semen analysis may also be performed at your first visit, if necessary. Scan and semen test results will typically be available towards the end of your first visit and your doctor will discuss with you whether any further investigations need to be undertaken, assess whether it is appropriate for you and your partner to undergo treatment, and discuss suitable treatment options. Find out more about treatment options we offer.
You may decide at this stage that fertility counselling is required to assist you in making an appropriate decision about your treatment, and we can arrange for you to see an independent counsellor at the clinic. We will also seek your permission at this stage to contact your GP for the purposes of obtaining further relevant information and medical history.
At this first visit you will receive in-depth information about the next stages in your proposed treatment, and we will be happy to answer any questions and address concerns that you might have.
We will also seek your permission at this stage to contact your GP for the purposes of obtaining further relevant information about your and your partner’s medical history, if necessary.
Please arrive for registration at the London Fertility Centre 30 minutes prior to your appointment with the doctor. If you have not already been asked to return a completed registration form, Welfare of the Child and Consent to Disclose forms, you will be asked to complete these with full personal details, as well as those of your GP and your referrer, if applicable. You are also required to provide an NHS number if you have one. Please also bring a copy of your passport as this is a requirement of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA).
