Spire Livingston Clinic, the unique Scottish user of an intensive physiotherapy programme is celebrating as its 1000th patient reports tremendous success and a great “buzz”.
Susan Graham, 38, from Livingston, was diagnosed with two prolapsed discs in her lower back during an MRI scan at Spire Murrayfield Hospital last year.
The Livingston Clinic uses the Active Spine Care programme to improve back pain and spinal fitness by retraining muscles using specialist equipment and specific stretching and strengthening exercises to do at home.
The physiotherapists at the clinic eased Susan’s fear of lifting ordinary things which was one of her biggest stumbling blocks in her rehabilitation.
She said: “The pain in my back was horrendous and I was very fearful of doing things, I couldn’t even lift an iron. I got a good buzz from the programme and it didn't feel like rehabilitation at all. I was sceptical at first as I wondered how a few exercises could help when I'd been in pain for 15 years.”
Spire Livingston Clinic is the only clinic in Scotland to offer this specific programme that consists of six or twelve-week blocks of treatment.
Of the 1000 people treated for back or neck pain on the DBC programme, 97 per cent reported their pain had reduced by more than half after treatment.
There are six common complaints that improve on the programme:
· Chronic or recurrent low/ mid back pain
· Chronic or recurrent neck pain
· Reduced function or lower back pain after surgery
· Neck pain or on-going arm symptoms after surgery
· Chronic whiplash injuries
· Thoracic spine or rib pain
Susan says the DBC programme was the most personal and patient focused back treatment she had ever tried and now says she “feels like a completely new person”.
DBC has a global network of specialist clinics that treats neck and back pain and is so revolutionary that it offers success where other treatment methods have failed.
