Since 2010, numbers of homeless has risen from 1,760 to 3,570. This means rough sleeping in the UK has increased by roughly 102%.
To help those in need staff from Spire Liverpool outside Sainsbury’s on Berry Street in Liverpool City Centre (opposite St Luke’s church) on 5 March from 5.30pm, for several hours distributing warm clothing and blankets, as well as food and hot/cold drinks.
Jessica Waters, the lead on the project, said: "It isn’t about over the top gestures and thousands of pounds. Just a cup of coffee, a sandwich and a coat given with a warm smile can sometimes be the difference not only between life or death, but even just a general quality of life. Any donation, small or large, can help significantly in the short run, and potentially even in the long run.
"Any spare hats, gloves, scarves, coats or blankets could make such a huge difference to someone’s life on that day, and thats what we aim to do. If anyone does want to donate food or clothes item then we will be there all night and will be more than happy to take them on the evening and will make sure they go to those who need them."
