Sponsoring the 5th annual festival of Tennis was a great opportunity for Spire Liverpool Hospital to give something back to the community. The event began in the glorious sunshine at Chavasse Park, Liverpool One. The Liverpool Hope University International Tennis Tournament Festival of Tennis was 17 days of community events in Liverpool leading up to the tournament itself. Event organisers kicked things off with free tennis lessons introducing hundreds of children and adults to tennis.
The event followed on with mini-tennis events in Exchange Flags and Williamson Square and the Royal Liverpool Hospital.
Our staff got involved in supporting the run up to the tournament by taking part in the Corporate Tennis Tournament. Hilary Peers our very own receptionist at Spire Liverpool Hospital competed with her doubles partner Mary Smallwood and did it for the ladies being the only female competitors to progress through the rounds.
Hilary said "The atmosphere was just brilliant. It was a great day and I'd just like to say thanks to Anders for arranging it and letting us take part, Mary and I had a great time".
Two of our Bone and Joint Centre consultant orthopaedic surgeons Mr Peter Brownson and Mr Andrew Taylor wrote articles for the event about some of the most common tennis injuries. Check out their tennis articles here.
Our Perform Physiotherapy team were working behind the scenes with the tennis players throughout the tournament ensuring they had the highest standard of care available.
We would like to thank Northern Vision and all of the event organisers for bringing together so many people in such a positive way for the city. We look forward to the future of tennis thriving in Liverpool; the next Andy Murray might just be a local star!
