Onsite MRI scanner now available

March 2012

Spire Liverpool Hospital has invested over a million pounds on the installation of a fixed MRI scanner to complement its existing radiology services. Our new MRI scanner will offer an improved service to patients who, until now, have used a mobile scanner which visited the hospital onsite. Click here for further information about MRI scanning.

Private MRI scan Merseyside

The new MRI scanner will provide spinal, neurological, musculo-skeletal, orthopaedic, vascular, urological, abdominal and breast MRI procedures, in addition to those offered by the hospital’s existing imaging department including:

We have also recently upgraded our radiology department, extending the waiting room to cater for the increasing number of patients. The patient experience will be enhanced with a more comfortable and modern environment and receptionists are available for any questions patients or consultants may have.

Our new static MRI imaging centre allows for superior musculoskeletal and sports injury imaging. Highly experienced MRI radiographers performing the scan and specialist musculoskeletal radiologists reporting on the images make this a service to be relied upon.

What is an MRI Scan?

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) combines a powerful magnet with a sophisticated computer to produce pictures of any part of the body without the need for X-rays. The detail in these pictures is so good that the scanner can see even small abnormalities.

This accuracy helps in the detection of disease and injury, allowing effective treatment to start as soon as possible. MRI scans are used to give detailed information about bones and joints, the head and neck, and nearly every organ in the body, including blood vessels.

The information is collected electronically over a short period of time, then translated into a series of images on a computer screen. These images can be transferred on to film or CD, so that a specialist can study them closely and report the findings to your GP or consultant.
