A group of Liverpool surgeons set sail for the race of their lives, as part of the annual JP Morgan Round the Island Race in the Isle of Wight.
The one-day yacht event is one of the most popular of its kind in the UK, attracting a fleet of more than 1500 race boats – including sailing legends Ben Ainslie and Ellen MacArthur. The event was started by TV personality David Dimbleby.
Among the starters for the five-nautical mile race was a team from Spire Liverpool Hospital including orthopaedic surgeons John Davidson and Peter Brownson.
Both Peter and John from the Bone and Joint Centre had a great day on board the Bavaria 36, chartered from Fairview Sailing in Hamble.
Peter said, “We had a fantastic day at the Round the Island Race, sailing a boat that we had chartered with a crew of eight. Unfortunately we had to retire early due to the light winds, but the whole experience was great – one of the highlights was being passed by the Queen Mary 2 in the Channel!”
