Professor Richard Powell is a nationally recognised authority on the management of allergic diseases. He is a member of national committees advising on standards of allergy care and related drug treatments across the UK. He recognises that the quality of life of allergy sufferers can be improved dramatically by a correct diagnosis and specialist advice. The impact of an allergy on the sufferer and their family must not be underestimated.
Professor Powell emphasizes that a detailed and thorough history is central to making a correct allergy diagnosis, establishing the relationship between symptoms and allergen exposure, progression of a reaction and response to treatment. Most patients will require skin prick testing to confirm the responsible allergen.
Professor Powell has over one hundred peer reviewed original publications. In 2007 he was lead author of the BSACI Guideline for the management of Chronic Urticaria and Angioedema. He is currently writing an updated version for publication in 2014. He is spoke at the BSACI Annual meeting July 2013 “Invigorating Your Practice - Urticaria and Angioedema” and at the Biomedical Science Congress in September 2013 - "Allergy tests and only be interpreted with a good clinical history".
Professor Powell sees both children and adults.
