Professional profile:

Mr Naren Basu is the Lead Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. His specialist area is exclusively breast disease, breast cancer surgery and all breast related problems. As an Oncoplastic Surgeon, he integrates plastic surgery techniques into breast cancer surgery to preserve and enhance aesthetical outcomes without compromising disease control.

He completed the prestigious National Oncoplastic Fellowship in Manchester - under the tutorage of leading Plastic and Reconstructive Breast Surgeons. This fellowship,1 of only 9 GMC recognised posts in the country, was carried out at the UK's largest screening breast unit.

Mr Basu’s degrees: Bart’s & the London, Imperial College & St. Mary’s and a First Class degree from University College London. He trained at several prestigious international units: Harvard Medical & Dana Faber (Boston, USA), Institut Curie (Paris), The Christie and UHSM. He was awarded the Ronald Raven Award from the Royal College of Surgeons and gained the highest marks at the European Breast Surgery exams in Austria.

His research includes risk-reducing surgery and familial breast cancer. He is completing an MD degree investigating Contralateral Breast Cancer in high-risk patients (including BRCA1/2 carriers). He publishes and presents work at a national and international level. He is an active trainer, teaching plastic and breast surgeons at a national and local level

Personal profile:

Naren has benefited from a diverse up-bringing having lived in Zambia, been educated in the UK with the majority of his training in London. He is excited by his recent move to the Midlands where he hopes to spend time outside work with his young family. He is participating in the Birmingham Fun Run to raise money for Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer appeal and hopes that this worthy cause will rekindle his love for outdoor sports including cricket, golf and football
