Background Information
Professional profile:

Dr Halpern is lead consultant dermatologist at Walsall Hospital and a consultant at the Birmingham Skin Centre. Having qualified from the University of Birmingham he undertook specialist training in dermatology within the West Midlands. He has won a number of prizes, has been widely published in academic journals and has authored a prize winning internationally published academic dermatology textbook. He has also published a highly rated guide to treating eczema in children (

Dr Halpern undertakes both general and specialist clinics looking after adults with dermatological problems such as psoriasis, acne and eczema. He is immediate past skin cancer lead for Walsall and is fully accredited in the diagnosis and management of skin cancers including mole checks. He is also a trained skin surgeon and operates on skin cancers, moles, skin tags, cysts and warts.

He has a particular interest in children with skin problems and sees patients from across North Birmingham, the Black Country and South Staffordshire in his NHS paediatric dermatology clinic. Most of his patients are children with eczema, acne, vitiligo, infections and birth marks as well as those with rarer conditions.

He prides himself on his communication skills and it is always his aim that every patient leaves a consultation with a clear understanding of what their problem is, what treatments options are available and why they have decided on a particular treatment. Having worked in Dermatology for a number of years he fully understands how distressing skin disease can be and is both sympathetic and understanding of his patients.

Personal profile:

Originally from Manchester, Dr Halpern has lived locally in Sutton Coldfield for a number of years. He is married and has two young children. Although his family and work take up much of his time he enjoys DIY, gardening, sport and reading.
