Aston's Restaurant

Aston's Restaurant is open to visitors, patients and the general public

We know how important food and nutrition are in helping you to get better. We cater for a range of tastes and appetites, and we'll be happy to adapt meals to suit special dietary requirements including vegetarian, kosher and gluten sensitive.

Our menus have been designed with healthy eating in mind. A healthy diet contains lots of fruit and vegetables based on starchy foods such as wholegrain bread, pasta and rice; and is low in saturated fat, salt and sugar.

Before and after an operation it is likely that there will be some restrictions on what you can eat or drink. With this in mind we have a 24 hour menu service so that as soon as you feel ready to eat we will be able to give you the option of a hot or cold meal.

We have an on-site restaurant called Aston's where visitors, patients and members of the public are able to get a hot or cold meal and refreshments.

Dietary Information

For patients who need to follow a specific diet, please be assured that we will try to adjust our menu to meet dietary requirements.

Diabetic diet
The diabetic diet is a healthy way of eating and is based on the following recommendations:

  • Cut down on sugary foods (low sugar products are available)
  • Less fat should be eaten, avoid fried fatty foods, pastry, rich sauces and desserts
  • Eat complex carbohydrate foods e.g wholemeal grains, pasta, rice and bread
  • Vegetables can be eaten freely
  • At least 2 servings daily of fresh fruit is recommended

Light diet
There is no strict definition of a 'light' diet, but is usually ordered for patients recovering from surgery. For the most suitable light diet choice appropriate for your needs please ask.

Gluten free / coeliac diets
All dishes we cook can be adapted to be suitable for this particular diet - if in doubt - please ask.

Low fat diet
We aim to reduce fat intake by:

  • using skimmed milk in all sauces and drinks
  • avoiding fried foods
  • offering low fat spreads
  • avoiding pastry dishes, cakes and biscuits
  • avoiding dressings and mayonnaise

Allergies
If you have any allergies or food intolerance, please alert us to this as soon as possible. Some dishes may contain;

  • dairy foods
  • wheat
  • nuts

Grapefruit juice or cranberry juice may interact with some drugs so please check with your nurse before ordering
