Charity Cricket Event

A team of Consultants from Spire Little Aston Hospital played their annual charity cricket match against local GPs at Sutton Coldfield Cricket Club, Rectory Park, on Sunday 10th August.

It was a fun filled day which was organised and hosted by Louise Downie, GP Liaison Officer from Spire Little Aston hospital who said ‘despite three pretty heavy downpours in the afternoon, the Consultants and GP’s completed the game and the day was a great success!’

Consultant Anaesthetist Mr Paul Johnston and Mr Chavarathy an Orthopaedic registrar from team Spire opened the 30 over game and set team GP a target of 145 all out.

Dr Rahul Dubb from team GP scored 50 and retired then went back in at the end of the game with Noël Talbot to win the game by one wicket!

Man of the match was awarded to Consultant Anaesthetist, Dr John Sheldrake who took 3 wickets for 8 runs in two overs, with Dr Rahul Dubb from team GP also worthy of the award with his 50 not out.

Mr Brian Banerjee, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, who was captain of the Consultant team, says ‘It was great to get together with colleagues, to play cricket and raise money for charity, hopefully Team Spire will do a better job next year’.

Spire Little Aston Hospital would like to thank everyone who was involved and supported the event which raised £400 for Cancer Research UK.
