Spire Leicester Hospital’s Urodynamics Clinic provides a consultant led outpatient service for both women with urogynaecological problems and for men with urological issues, offering diagnosis and treatment for patients with problems with their bladders and urethras.
Diagnosis and treatment for patients with bladder problems
Diagnostic tests undertaken in our urodynamics clinic can help explain symptoms such as:
- Frequent urination
- Sudden, strong urges to urinate
- Problems starting a urine stream
- Painful urination
- Problems emptying the bladder completely
- Recurrent urinary tract infections
Urodynamic tests help assess how the bladder and urethra are performing their job of storing and releasing urine.
For adults the urodynamic testing is mainly arranged for women with stress and/or urge incontinence and for men with enlarged prostate glands which affects bladder emptying. The test results help to indicate which type of treatment is most suitable, be it conservative management of the problem, drug therapy or surgery.
Procedures regularly undertaken in our twice weekly urodynamic clinic include:
- Urodynamic study
- Bladder scanning
- Flexible cystoscopy and stent removal
- Prostate biopsy
- Gold seed marker insertion for radiotherapy to the prostate
