Following training in Greece, London and Leicester Mr Empeslidis became a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the University Hospitals of Leicester in 2011 where he now leads the Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) service.
Mr Empeslidis is a Principal investigator for several retina research trials as well as having a keen interest in Uveitis. He was awarded the clinical excellence award from the Macular Society in 2013 for his commitment to research and the continuous improvement in the AMD service at the Leicester Royal Infirmary where he is also responsible for the implementation of treatments in diabetic retinopathy and vein occlusions with anti VEGF agents.
Mr Empeslidis is responsible for the training of an enthusiastic group of medical retina trainees and enjoys teaching both medical students and junior colleagues. He is a senior examiner in various professional exams and has published several papers in peer reviewed journals and written several chapters in books.
