Miss Elson trained initially at University of Leicester Medical School before completing her training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in East Anglia. She spent two years in London undertaking research in ectopic pregnancy and miscarriages and now travels lecturing on this topic.
Miss Elson's research forms the basis of the national guidelines in this area. She then went onto train reproductive medicine which covers infertility (male and female), endocrinology (hormones), recurrent pregnancy loss, paediatric gynaecology, laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery for two years at St Marys Hospital in Manchester.
An experienced consultant and Honorary Senior Lecturer at University of Leicester she currently specialises in infertility, assisted conception, reproductive endocrinology (hormone problems), early pregnancy loss and recurrent miscarriage, paediatric/adolescent gynaecology and management of fibroids and endometrial polyps. Miss Elson is a member of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology Recurrent Pregnanacy Guidelines Group and Medical Advisor to the Ectopic Pregnancy Trust.
