Dr Richard Robinson qualified from St Mary's Hospital in London in 1989. He trained in general internal medicine in Cardiff and Bristol before being appointed as a registrar in gastroenterology in Leicester in 1992.
His major research interest is osteoporosis in patients with ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease and he completed his MD on the aetiology and treatment of bone loss in these patients. He was awarded a British Digestive Foundation Travelling Fellowship in 1996 and spent time working in Lyon and Paris.
Dr Robinson is a general luminal gastroenterologist with particular interests in inflammatory bowel disease, colonoscopy and therapeutic endoscopy. He is Director of the Leicester Endoscopy Training Centre and since 2004 has run courses in basic and advanced endoscopy and colonoscopy.
Dr Robinson is an advanced colonoscopist for the National Bowel Cancer Screeening Programme and is Director of bowel cancer screening for Leicestershire.
