Professor Brunskill's post-graduate training in nephrology was extensive and included experience at several centres in the UK and three years in St Louis, Missouri, USA. He is now in a position to offer a comprehensive clinical service in general nephrology. Professor Brunskill's particular clinical interests are in hypertension and renal disease in pregnancy, and the investigation and treatment of reno-vascular and other progressive renal diseases. Professor Brunskill's clinical interests and expertise are facilitated and supported by an active laboratory research programme. His expertise in these areas is recognised and he is regularly invited to lecture at international meetings. He also sits on the editorial board of two medical journals.
Professor Brunskill's busy professional life is accompanied by an equally busy personal life. Much time is spent with his two children, but otherwise his major interests outside work are sporting. Professor Brunskill has always been a football player and he continues to play regularly, whilst maintaining his general fitness by running. When not playing football, Professor Brunskill can often be found spectating. As a Lancastrian he has been a lifelong supporter of Blackburn Rovers.
