Dr Martin started his medical career at Edinburgh University and graduated in 1998 with an Honours degree in Medicine and a first class intercalated BSc in Respiratory Pathology. Since then he has served as a Medical Officer with the Royal Navy including specialist interests in diving medicine, submarine medicine and a tour of Afghanistan.
Dr Martin specialised in Respiratory Medicine in Edinburgh before moving to Leicester to complete an MD in exercise asthma in elite athletes, a topic on which he has published extensively.
Dr Martin is a medical advisor to the world class performance programme for British Swimming and has managed asthma for a number of national and international athletes, especially in the run up to London 2012 where he provided Sports Medicine services at the Aquatics Centre for the Olympic games.
His interests are asthma, exercise asthma, occupational aspects of lung disease, pleural disease and interventional bronchoscopy.
