Dr Stewart undertook his undergraduate training at Leicester Medical School, qualifying in 1991. The majority of his postgraduate training was also in the Leicester hospitals and he developed an interest in gastroenterology early in his career.
He is currently consultant gastroenterologist and clinical lead for adult nutrition and intestinal failure at University Hospitals of Leicester.
He was formerly a clinical co-ordinator for NCEPOD and authored national reports on parenteral nutrition and kidney disease. Dr Stewart is a Chairman of examiners for the Royal College of Physicians and clinical teacher at Leicester Medical School where he lectures on nutrition.
Dr Stewart has a particular interest in nutrition and inflammatory bowel disease.
