I have been a consultant in adult gastroenterology for 15 years specialising in adult clinical nutrition, intestinal failure and complex inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn's disease. I am an expert in clinical nutrition and the administration of parenteral nutrition. I am clinical lead for Adult Nutrition at the University Hospitals of Leicester. I have extensive experience in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, in particular complex Crohn's disease.

My primary expertise is in the diagnosis and treatment of all bowel disease, in particular inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), nutrition and intestinal failure.

I am currently Clinical Lead for Adult Nutrition at the University Hospitals of Leicester and have previously sat on a number of national committees, including the Patient Safety Committee of the Royal College of Physicians; the Clinical Standards and Services Committee, and Small Bowel and Nutrition Committee of the British Society of Gastroenterology.

I am currently a member of the Scientific Committee of the British Nutrition Foundation and the National Emergency Laparotomy Audit.

I am a Clinical Teacher and lecture regularly on nutrition on the undergraduate medical course at Leicester Medical School. Nationally I am a Clinical Examiner for the Royal College of Physicians of London.

I was previously clinical advisor to the National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcome and Death (NCEPOD) and wrote national reports on Emergency Medicine, Acute Kidney Injury and Parenteral Nutrition.
