Our Macmillan accredited chemotherapy suite can offer you:
- The very best treatment possible

- A dedicated chemotherapy unit and experienced oncology team
Our oncology team
First and foremost our dedicated team recognise that being diagnosed with cancer is one of the toughest things most of us will ever face. Our team’s purpose is to provide excellent clinical care, personal support and expert information.
The team consists of five highly experienced oncology consultants and four haematology consultants who all work at the Leicester Royal Infirmary in the NHS. Other consultants can refer into the hospital to any of the consultants listed on the right.
Our chemotherapy service is consultant led and therefore the consultant oncologists review patients at each treatment and are available by phone at all times. Supporting the oncologists are two chemotherapy nurse specialists, three chemotherapy nurses, chemotherapy trained pharmacists and consultants specialising in pain management. Spire Leicester Hospital's Chemotherapy Suite has direct links with LOROS and the NHS trust for radiotherapy.
The service currently delivers approximately 1,800 doses of chemotherapy treatment a year, for patients who have private medical insurance and for patients who opt to pay for their treatment. Our chemotherapy unit provides intravenous and oral chemotherapy, biphosphanates and other anti-cancer treatments such as monoclonial antibodies, eg, Herceptin, Avastin, Cetuximab.
How do I access treatment?
Referrals for treatment at Spire Leicester Hospital’s Chemotherapy Suite are made through the GP or through the hospital consultant.
After the first consultation with the oncologist, if you require treatment you will also have further discussions with a chemotherapy nurse. The nurse will discuss what treatment is involved, how to manage any side effects and give written information packs. You will also be given 24 hour contact numbers.
We provide a safe and streamlined service through the use of:
- Up to date technology and equipment
- Our in house chemotherapy pharmacy service
- On site pathology
- On site MRI & CT scanners, X-ray and ultrasound
The chemotherapy service is based in our dedicated Chemotherapy Suite. The hospital has an onsite pathology unit and blood tests can be taken and the results received within an hour.
Biochemistry, pathology, histopathology are all provided for through our laboratory.
An onsite pharmacy team, led by oncology trained pharmacists, clinically review, dispense, check and issue medication in line with prescribed treatment regimes, at a time that suits both the patient and consultant. This includes medication counselling and a review by the consultant as necessary.
