I am a professor of hepatobiliary surgery and specialise in hernia repair, gallbladder surgery, liver surgery and keyhole surgery. I perform over 150 laparoscopic cholecystectomies a year and I am currently involved in leading a multicentre trial looking at best practice in patients with gallstone pain and symptoms.

I trained at Oxford University and was appointed as a consultant in 1998. I perform gallbladder, liver cancer and liver transplantation surgery and work in one of the largest units in Europe.

I have published over 160 peer reviewed publications and have supervised several post graduate fellows towards PhDs and MDs.

I am currently the principal external examiner for Oxford University Medical School and I exam for the Intercollegiate Specialty Board in General Surgery and also for the Union Européenne des Médecins Spécialistes in HPB Surgery.

I was on the NICE guidelines group for gallbladder disease and I am the President elect of the Association of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland. I was also the Founder President of the Great Britain and Ireland Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (2009).
