Background Information 
Professional profile:
Mr Martin Stone was appointed John Charnley Hip Fellow to Professor Wroblewski (Wrightington Hospital 1990). Since his consultant appointment (1992) Mr Stone has run a joint replacement register and has advised Government on the new National Hip Register. 

Mr Stone developed the first Leeds pre-admission home screening and discharge planning of joint replacement patients (1992) and he set up a patient telephone help line at the Chapel Allerton Hospital Hip Centre (1996).

Mr Stone was advisor to the British Orthpaedic Association on the 'Best Practice in Hip Surgery' (1998).  He is the organiser of a UK travelling Hip Concepts group (from 1993) and has run an International Hip training facility at Leeds General Infirmary (1998-2000).

He has been a member of the regular faculty of British Revision Hip Course, Royal College of Surgeons Revision Hip Course, Leeds Practical Hip and Knee Course, and Leeds Orthopaedic Biomechanics Course.

Mr Stone currently trains a clinical hip fellow and supervises several PhD bioengineering students with the University of Leeds. He is involved in UK and International research projects. In 2000 Mr Stone began the annual consultant Yorkshire Arthroplasty Meeting.  He is a member of the LMBRU (Leeds Musculoskeletal Biomedical Research Unit) funded by the National Institute for Health Research.

The majority of Mr Stone's caseload at Spire Leeds Hospital is the same as his caseload at Leeds General Infirmary ie primary and revision hip and knee replacement surgery and arthroscopy.
