I qualified from St Bartholomew's in London but most of my training in obstetrics and gynaecology was carried out at Kings College Hospital. The research which culminated in my doctorate was carried out in the menopause unit at this hospital, the Chelsea Hospital for Women and the Imperial Cancer Research Fund Laboratories at Lincoln's Inn Fields, also in London.I established and ran the colposcopy unit at Kings and also received specialist training in urogynaecology. I left as a senior registrar to become the visiting Professor in gynaecological oncology at the University of South Florida, Tampa. From here I moved to become senior lecturer at Charing Cross and Westminster Hospital Medical Schools at Queen Mary's Hospital, Roehampton. I was appointed to St James's Hospital, Leeds in 1990.I am an accredited colposcopist and trainer and a preceptor for minimal access surgery. At the Spire Leeds Hospital, in addition to general gynaecology, I undertake colposcopy, outpatient hysteroscopy and gynaecological oncology.
