Prior to his consultant appointment at Leeds Teaching Hospitals, Dr Talat Mushtaq had extensive training in paediatric endocrinology at Glasgow, Edinburgh and Sheffield Children’s Hospitals. His NHS department consists of two consultants and two specialist nurses and provides a comprehensive tertiary service at Leeds Children’s Hospital with outreach clinics across West, East and parts of North Yorkshire.
His clinical work spans all disorders of the endocrine glands with common referrals including the assessment of children with short stature or early or late puberty. He aims to provide a framework to manage each child to the highest current standards, but also looks to improve the system within which children are managed.
Dr Mushtaq is actively involved in clinical research and has 11 publications, and 35 abstracts. He is regularly invited to lecture at local and national meetings and is involved in setting up and delivery of a number of teaching programs. He has also contributed to education in the wider community including presentations to families at specific parent / child group forums.
