Victoria Neale talks about being a Perioperative Practitioner at Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital.
"I was attracted to work for Spire because of the better working hours and conditions, and because I'd have time to care for patients and be part of a smaller team. Before this I worked in a recovery/HDU at a large teahing hospital.
Here at Spire Cambridge Lea I work primarily as a nurse in recovery caring for patients post operatively to ensure that they are safe to return to the ward. My role has progressed and I have been able to take on extra roles within the department. In the year i've worked here I have completed a number of courses including Advanced Life Support and Health and Safety and am being supported to work towards a degree level Anaesthetic qualification. When I'm not in recovery I complete practical hours in anaesthetics for my course.
The main difference working for Spire compared to other places i've worked is that it's a lot less stressful. Here you have time to care for your patients properly. The working conditions are so much better, with less unsocial hours and better pay too.
In the team we have good relations and everyone is supportive."
