Sue Garcia is a Specialist Ophthalmics Nurse at the Spire Hull & East Riding Hospital.
The ward team is the core of the hospital
"I joined Spire in 2001. Before joining Spire I worked at Hull Royal Infirmary since qualifying in 1984. Whilst I was there I specialised in medicine and ophthalmic surgery.
My current role at Spire Hull & East Riding involves specialist Ophthalmic surgery, and also general surgery. My role includes carrying and meeting the holistic needs of all patients from pre admission to discharge. I also occasionally care for medical patients. I also work effectively as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
The most rewarding part of my job is ensuring that the patient has a pleasant and uneventful journey from admission to discharge.
I have further developed and enhanced skills previously learnt, including caring for surgical ophthalmic patients and general surgical patients.
I ensure that the Consultant protocols and preferences are kept up to date and ensure that I cascade this to members of the nursing team. It is essential that to prioritise work load to work ensuring that the patient is central to this.
The ward team is the core of the hospital and works efficiently and effectively as a team ensuring that all patients needs are met and their journey through the hospital is pleasant."
