Angelene Wilcock is a Plastics Specialist Nurse at Spire Hull & East Riding Hospital.
I feel my knowledge has greatly expanded due to opportunities and encouragement from my manager and colleagues
"Before joining Spire I was in training at Hull University. I joined Spire as a newly qualified nurse. I had a lot of support from the hospital and all of my colleagues, although being a staff nurse is an on-going learning role, I feel my knowledge has greatly expanded due to opportunities and encouragement from my manager and colleagues.
I have now worked at Spire for three years. My current role involves being a senior staff nurse, ward co-ordinator, plastics specialist nurse and I am currently studying to be a mentor at Hull University. My colleagues and I care for a wide variety of clients attending the hospital for various procedures/operations, generally elective surgery.
My role as a plastics specialist nurse involves liaising with consultants to ensure all of our protocols and preferences are current, attending open nights for potential clients interested in having plastic surgery (not holding open nights at present) and cascading information to other colleagues about pre and post op plastic surgery care.
The most rewarding part of my job is knowing I have given clients one hundred per cent in any aspect of care they require and working at Spire I feel this is achievable.
All of my skills have developed greatly since working at Spire. I gave developed my skills in caring for pre and post op surgical clients, keeping accurate documentation, maintaining time management and expanding my organisational skills. My confidence has increased which enables me to deal with ever-changing situations. Currently I am developing my leadership and teaching skills as part of my co-ordinator and mentorship roles.
The team at Spire are very supportive, hardworking, enthusiastic and committed to providing excellent nursing care which is reflected in the feedback from clients."
