Lauren Wheeler is a Receptionist, at the Spire Fylde Coast Hospital.
The most rewarding part of the job is knowing you have made a difference
"Before joining Spire I was a Visual Merchandiser for Topshop. I started workinng at Spire Fylde Coast Hospital on the Outpatients Reception desk in January 2012, so I have now been here 11 months.
My role involves meeting and greeting patients, general administration work, booking appointments and switchboard operation. I deal with a wide vrange of patient queries, interacting with both patients and consultants. It is a very varied role and not one day is the same.
The most rewarding part of the job is knowing you have made a difference!! Being able to go that extra mile to give patients a first class service and quality health care.
Since working here i've developed a lot of new skills. I definitely have more patience and greater communication skills. Being front of house, you are the first port of contact that the patient has. As a result many patients are anxious and stressed, they want answers there and then which in some cases we cannot give. This can be very challenging and it is our job to calm the patient down and reassure them. Even though this is very challenging this is also a very rewarding part of my job knowing that I have made a difference. Sometimes all they need is to be greeted by a smile and a friendly, positive attitude.
The team I work with are a great support network, everyone pulls together and they will drop anything to help you at a time of need . Everyone is so friendly and positive, it is very motivated team! It’s a great place to work."
