I have been a consultant ophthalmologist with a special interest in paediatric ophthalmology at the Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust since July 2013.
Before coming here I completed two senior fellowships in paediatric ophthalmology, neuro-ophthalmology and strabismus, including the internationally renowned fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. My earlier fellowship was at Leicester, which is recognised as the national centre of excellence in nystagmus and head posture surgery.
I also trained extensively in general ophthalmology as a registrar and earlier as a senior house officer for over 7 years before my two fellowships, in various UK hospitals including Addenbrookes's Hospital, Cambridge.
My areas of expertise include paediatric ophthalmology, strabismus (management of squints including surgical correction by both adjustable and fixed suture techniques and also botulinum toxin treatment), adult cataract surgery and general ophthalmology. I treat such complex conditions as advanced Retinopathy of Prematurity, infantile cataract surgery, strabismus surgery, paediatric ocular genetics, retinal dystrophies, paediatric inflammatory eye conditions (uveitis), nystagmus, adult cataract surgery and all kinds of ophthalmic emergencies.
In addition to my clinical and surgical duties I also take a keen role teaching and training both medical students as well as junior doctors. I am a tutor and examiner at HYMS (Hull and York Medical School).
I supervise medical students and offer a student selected training component in paediatric ophthalmology to fourth year medical students (Paediatric ophthalmology; the link between the developing brain and the eye). I also train ophthalmology registrars in surgery as well as clinics.
