Specialist Cancer Care Centre
Our new centre opened in the Essex Healthcare Park in Chelmsford in November 2015 and offers the latest technologies in cancer care to patients of Brentwood, Billericay, Chelmsford and the surrounding areas of Essex and East London. Read more here.
Early diagnosis is important for the successful treatment of cancer and to ensure the best possible outcome. Same-day appointments are often available for urgent tests. Patients can be referred by their GP or consultant for a CT scan, MRI scan, ultrasound, X-ray, mammogram, bronchoscopy, barium enema and/or barium swallow and barium meal.
Many of the consultant surgeons at Spire Hartswood Hospital specialise in cancer surgery. Your surgeon will be with you throughout your journey, from your first out-patient visit to your aftercare and recovery plan. You will be looked after in your own private room and cared for by our experienced nursing team who will do everything they can to make your recovery as comfortable as possible.
This part of your treatment will be managed by one of our consultant oncologists. Your oncologist will plan your chemotherapy treatment with our specialist oncology nurses who will normally be with you at each out-patient appointment. If you are having private chemotherapy treatment at Spire Hartswood Hospital you will always have a private room for the day of your treatment. You’ll also have 24-hour access to our oncology nurses, who provide ongoing support to patients and their families. Find out more about what's involved in having chemotherapy treatment with Spire Healthcare.
If your treatment plan includes a course of radiotherapy, your consultant oncologist can arrange this to be delivered at our new Specialist Care Centre, depending on your wishes and the specific treatment you need.
Breast cancer care
Spire Hartswood Hospital is a Bupa-approved breast cancer unit. Specialist breast care nurses work alongside our oncology nursing team to give breast cancer patients the best possible support from the point of diagnosis, through surgery and ongoing treatment, including breast reconstruction options.
Preventing hair loss
At Spire Hartswood Hospital we understand that losing your hair can be very distressing and the psychological effects can be lasting. We use a Paxman Orbis Scalp Cooling System which has been shown to be effective in preventing or reducing the degree of hair loss. Many insurance companies will cover the cost of the treatment but, in instances where it isn't covered, a fixed price can be agreed in advance for patients wishing to self-fund.
Home care and hospice care
When needed, our oncology team liaises with the Macmillan service and your GP to offer further support within your own home or in a hospice setting.
