Mr Phil Wheeler, aged 38 from Maidstone in Kent, had minimally-invasive spinal surgery at Spire Hartswood Hospital in Brentwood, Essex in February 2009.
"Altogether I have had a wonderful experience at Spire Hartswood."
Phil Wheeler, Maidstone
During the operation, known as microdiscectomy, consultant neurosurgeon Mr Jonathan Benjamin removed part of a ruptured lumbar disc which was "pinching" Mr Wheeler’s spinal nerve roots. Mr Wheeler was able to go back to his work as a management consultant within two weeks of the operation.
Here is an extract from Mr Wheeler’s letter thanking the staff at the hospital….
“Jonathan Benjamin did a fantastic job and also took the time to explain everything to me and made me feel calm and relaxed about the whole experience. He provided me with what I would consider to be world-class care….
The quality of the room and all the hospital facilities was second to none. The main thing that impressed me was the overall quality of staff throughout the hospital. Without exception, everyone was truly fantastic, providing an exemplary service with patience, consideration, passion, personality and good humour. Your catering staff are all caring and wonderful people and your nursing staff provided the best possible care with warmth and compassion.
I also need to mention Ranee (consultant anaesthetist, Dr Ranee Wijesurendra) who managed all my drugs. I could never hope to meet another person with such a depth of knowledge in her subject, so professional and so charming with it. The pain I had been in for some time was complex and quite unbearable, but once Ranee took control of the situation, I stabilised quickly and I feel a huge debt of gratitude towards her…..
Altogether I have had a wonderful experience at Spire Hartswood and want to thank you for running such a first-class operation.”
