Four colleagues from Spire Hartswood Hospital, Brentwood, walked nearly 25 miles over the three highest peaks in the Yorkshire Dales last Saturday.
Shelley Clark, Claire Jolliffe, Louise Larner and Liesa Kicks, alongside friend Brooke Miller, decided to take on the challenge to raise money for two charities: Macmillan and For The Love of Joni.
The task they set themselves was to walk the 24.5 miles of challenging terrain in under 12 hours. Physiotherapists Liesa and Louise raced ahead finishing in 8 hours 47 minutes, and 10 hours respectively, whilst Hospital Director’s PA, Shelley, and Customer Service Manager, Claire, finished with 7 minutes to spare.
At the finishing line, Shelley said: “I can honestly say I have never been so physically or mentally challenged before. Nothing prepared us for what we have experienced! Picturing Joni Mai’s face literally got me up the last mountain. It has been an awesome day though, filled with lots of laughter - and blisters!”
The team, who call themselves ‘Hartswood Inspires’, have so far raised £3,500 which will be shared between Macmillan and For The Love of Joni, a local charity raising money for a nine-year-old girl from Hornchurch currently battling bone cancer.
